Indian Summer Sky

Early morning limousine
Wife drops me and I head West
Smoking rental limousine
Lighting up a cigarette
Rental says no smoking allowed
Drop the windows and cigarette
This limo likes 100
West Texas is flat as hell
The rain falls and I can't see
Midday for a cigarette
Immigration don't like me
Image of Bob Marley
Screw El Paso and I head north
In my brand new limousine
That was hairy -- cigarette
My next stop, Albuquerque
The limousine talks to me
Feels like this is his sacred land
I have to say I must agree
This is so beautiful
Indian Summer Sky
Indian Reservation
Limousine wants to get some gas
Agreed and we pull over
The people inside are so nice
We cross into Durango
Uphill into morning sky
Everything is vertical
Now we can legally buy
The limousine talks to me
Feels like this is his sacred land
I have to say I must agree
This is so beautiful
Indian Summer Sky

Pistols At Dawn
04:41
|

I'm dating a speech therapist
Now my speeches are better than ever
More healthy and more self aware
More attentive to the practice of self care
And the clouds roll on by
The architecture of her sleep
Like a starfish stirring in the deep
Garlic in the garden touch the sky
And the waves roll on by
Can you see us from the other side?
Or are you a bit preoccupied?
Pointless trying to run and hide
Better catch a wave and enjoy the ride
And the clouds roll on by
I'm dating a speech therapist
Now my speeches are better than ever
No more pistol duels at dawn
With unicorns who eat my lawn
And the clouds roll on by

Sweet little puppy dogs are usually my friends
But the handcuffs made it hard to show affection
They sniffed my car while the officers tore it apart
Crossed the border into New Mexico
Never left the States, just my Texas plates
Had nothing to hide, just chasing that Rocky Mountain high
I'd never felt so important
How many tax dollars can this be?
Such a brisk investigation
Into a little old guy like me
I guess they did not take kindly
To my trying to save some time
By skipping around the roadblock they had set up
Pardon me, Sir
There must be some misunderstanding
Yes, I will be happy to lie face down on the ground
With my hands behind my head
Just in case you might decide
That you're getting itchy, feel like firing off a round
Sweet little puppy dogs are usually my friends
But on this fine summer day
I was wishing them away as the sweat rolled down my back
Stood me up and shook my hand
No hard feelings, you're a free man
I'm getting out of here and I ain't never looking back
They say what happens in El Paso
Just needs to stay in El Paso
They say what happens in El Paso
What happens in El Paso

Bag Of Onions
02:52
|

Wives have been leaving
Lonely men behind
Endlessly for centuries,
So why should I act so surprised?
Carmen was his light
The apple of his eye
The sunshine to his night
The bluebird in his sky
Out mowing the lawn
In his undershirt
It's hard to stand by
And watch a man fall apart
Carmen was his light
The apple of his eye
The sunshine to his night
The bluebird in his sky
She was weighing her onions
I was standing in line
She printed out her code and walked away
Left her onions behind
I touched her on the shoulder
She smiled, what do you know
We've been together ever since
That was 40 years ago
Cigar firmly in place
Faraway look in his eyes
Even though he won the race
In the end he surrendered the prize
Carmen was his light
The apple of his eye
The sunshine to his night
The bluebird in his sky

So you think you know
How things are gonna go
He throws his head back and laughs so hard
Beer comes squirting out his nose
Footfalls on the dusty road
Collect it all then let it go
She throws her head back and laughs so hard
Beer comes squirting out her nose
And sand through your fingers
And sunshine in your hair
Follow the call of your bliss and dreams
If you dare
Footfalls on the dusty road
Collect it all then let it go
She throws her head back and laughs so hared
Beer comes squirting out her nose
Hair shimmers in the summer sunshine
Spills her wine on my sleeve
Looked into her eyes and all reason took flight
I've got a boat, let's sail away tonight
Summer evenings in the back yard
Spouting off the same old tired canard
Footfalls on the dusty road
Collect it all then let it go
She throws her head back and laughs so hared
Beer comes squirting out her nose

Surviving Family
05:52

The story that I tell you
Will make no sense
You'll ask yourself
How could this be true?
To ease your mind attribute
To false pretense
Exaggeration of
Commonly-held wounds
No one will believe you
I'll make sure that
No one will believe you at all
What if one day you realized
All you'd trusted was a lie
What would you do?
My words may sound fantastical
Like I must be to blame
Why would I agree
To keep my hand in the flame?
But my water now is fresh
My air now so clear
And I am still in love
With all that I hold dear
My nights are filled with shining stars
My days filled with song
Today I stand right here
Where I belong
My world is gorgeous, wide and green
My sky cerulean blue
My heart is clean
Because I have seen through you

A Really Good Dream
03:09
|
|||
I had a dream about you just last night
Calm and present, you took me by surprise
Woke up with real tears in my eyes
Some are open, some are cruel and cold
Some have smiles that rob us of our gold
Brisk business trading hearts, bought and sold
I'm building my own game of chess
Carving the pieces with my hands
Sawdust smile is where I stand
The search has led me right back to the start
Empty-handed, hopes that fell apart
But every day I'm smiling at a truth so beguiling
I'm smiling because I found you in my heart

Who are these nice young men
Who welcome us to the convenience store?
Is this some sort of new promotional gimmick?
Ain't never seen anything like it before
They seem like they're in a hurry
As they run out and surround our car
And none of them seems to be smiling
Have their plans ever gotten this far before?
I don't want to point no fingers
Folks will take what they can get
But around these parts best not to linger
We keep moving so we don't regret
Why are there four nice men
Sent out to welcome only us two?
Why are they approaching our doors?
Are they eager to share some good news?
Stopping I avoid eye contact
Slow motion, I put it in reverse
And wonder who are these four nice young men
Now angrily starting to curse at us?
I don't want to point no fingers
Folks will take what they can get
But around these parts best not to linger
We keep moving so we don't regret
Who are these nice young men?

When We Close Our Eyes
05:08
|
|||
What a crazy, crazy world
We fall in love, we touch the sky
We break our hearts and don't know why
And when we close our eyes we disappear
What a crazy, crazy world
We feel our hearts split open wide
We get the dry heaves 'til we can't even cry anymore
And when we close our eyes we disappear
What a crazy, crazy world
We break our hearts against the truth
We find true love and feel like teenagers all over again
And when we close our eyes we disappear
What a crazy, crazy life
How carelessly we blink our eyes
We pause to sit and wonder why
The hawk ignores us from the sky
And when we close our eyes we disappear

There's a place
Where the sun sets on the lake
There's a place
Where the love you get to make
Will set your soul at ease
Ranchito Pelon
There's a place
Where trusted friends always await
There's a place
Where the moonrise is never late
Ranchito Pelon
Are you ready for true love?
Ranchito Pelon
There's a place
Where the skies are always blue
There's a place
Been waiting all my life for you
Ranchito Pelon
Casa de mi corazon
There's a place
Where the sun sets on the lake
There's a place
Where the love you get to make
Will set your soul at ease
Ranchito Pelon
